Marenne Welten
The author / illustrator wrote this autobiographical story about an exceptional
childhood, during which her father was the centre of her life. Marenne grew up
in a small rural village. Her father, a sculptor, was a very imaginative man full
of surprises. The family was surrounded by animals: birds, a dog, horses, a cat, a
goat, rabbits, crocodiles… Her brothers were much older than Marenne and they
seldom allowed her to join in their games. Her mother was a warm, loving but
traditional woman. Marenne often wondered how her parents, being so different,
could get along so well. But then she realized they shared a tremendous sense of
humor!
